The Health Foundation of South Africa is an NPC with a mission to mobilise resources that enhance public health services through collaboration with public and private stakeholders, and is uniquely positioned to collaborate with the Department of Health to improve service delivery.
The Foundation is entering into Phase 2 of the Scaling Data Use Project. The overall goal of this project is to contribute to the provincial and Local Department of Health’s efforts to achieve the best possible health outcomes for the population of the Western Cape, particularly for TB and HIV, within a financially constrained environment.
Against this backdrop, we need strong skillsets to drive the success of this project. The successful candidate will be seconded to the Rural Health Services and City Health, for the duration (30 months) of the contract.
We are looking for 2 X Public Health Specialists personnel. This role will fulfil a coordinating and support function to the team on various projects and stakeholder engagement.
Core Areas of Work
- Provide technical guidance to the Department of Health or City Health for grant activities,
- Support organisational entrenchment of Quality Improvement and support sub district level quality improvement activities related to the grant.
- Analyse data, identify priorities for action and evaluate the outcome of interventions,
- Monitor and evaluate implementation of grant activities and work with project team to develop remedial plans to address deficits,
- Participate in project Department of Health/City Health meetings and provide feedback to stakeholders as required, and
- Attend to diverse functions as requested by managers in order to ensure effective implementation of the project.
- Oversee and guide the development and implementation of appropriate data tools
- Work in an integrated way with Dept of Health/ City Health teams to strengthen the health system and the use of data at a local level.
Requirements for the role
- Medical Degree plus FCPHM (SA) or MMed PHM or equivalent, or MBChB plus MPH with experience
- Registration with the HPCSA
- In-depth understanding of the health systems within South Africa,
- Ability to conduct independent research and report research findings to a professional and non-
professional audience, - Proficiency in MS Office and data software packages,
- Sound communication and presentation skills,
- High level of organization, and
- Attend to diverse functions as requested by managers in order to ensure effective implementation
of the project and strengthen the health system.
